The beautiful island of Andaman is not connected to India via railways, therefore travel on train is not possible. This island can be reached only by air or sea. For travelling to Andaman from Kolkata, daily flights are available. They are moderately priced (4,000 to 7,000) and take around 2 hours to reach Port Blair, which has the only airport base in Andaman.
Sea is the another mean of transport that connects the island with Kolkata. Advanced tickets can be booked at the various counters in the city, but the departure time of the ships can change or the ships can even get cancelled, depending upon the weather conditions. From Kolkata, there are only 3-4 sailings every month and takes around 66 hours. The cost of tickets start from Rs 2,000 and can go up to Rs 8,000 per person for one. The schedule of the ship gets printed in the local newspaper on the 28th of every month.
