The heritage town of Hampi is conveniently connected from Bangalore via regular bus service. Bangalore is 327 km from Hampi and no direct flights or trains are available between the two cities due to the absence of an airport or railway station at Hampi. Hubli, which is 162 km from Hampi, has the nearest airport and intermittent flights are available for Hubli from Bangalore. From Hubli, tourists can take the bus to Hampi, the price of which starts from Rs 300 per person. Direct taxis can also be taken from outside Hubli airport that will charge Rs 2,500 onwards for a drop.
Hampi does not have a railway station; hence direct trains are not available between the two cities. Tourists can take the YPR Jodhpur Exp, Hampi Express or Hospet Passenger trains from Bangalore which take 10 hours to reach Hospet. The city of Hospet is 15 km from Hampi and from here numerous options of local transport is available. Taking a train and continuing the onward journey on auto rickshaws or bus is the cheapest way to travel to Hampi from Bangalore.
No direct buses are available from Bangalore to Hampi. Tourists can take the overnight buses operated by both state as well as private operators. Buses take 8 hours to cover the distance between Bangalore and Hospet and charge Rs 600 onwards for a person. From Hospet, tourists can either take a local bus or hire a taxi in order to reach Hampi. From Hampi, local auto rickshaws charge around Rs 100 for a drop to Hampi. Taking a bus plus auto is a convenient way to travel between Bangalore and Hampi. Direct taxis too can be hired from Bangalore and would cost approximately Rs 6,000-8,000 for a round trip.
