Gulmarg is a beautiful hill station where the winter season is very good for enjoying snowfall and indulge in snowboarding and long-run Skiing and various sport sports activities are also held. - Winter (November to February) is cold with temperature ranging between -4°C to 11°C. Severe snowfall is a feature of this place. The winter season is good for enjoying skiing and enjoying honeymoon in Gulmarg . Snowfall is a common occurrence.
- Summer (March-May) is a refreshing period with a temperature band of 13°C and 29°C. This season is ideal for enjoying various adventure sports and sightseeing. Snow can be enjoyed on high altitudes.
- Monsoon (July to August) receive very moderate rainfall and is not enough to cause any disruption to the tourists.
Gulmarg, located in Jammu and Kashmir is an adventure destination in the remote Himalayas and has limited range when comes to shopping. Though there are many stores in the town selling carpets, clothing etc. yet are costly and higher price than in Srinagar. Some of the better shops in Gulmarg include Khan Cloth House, Ladakh Art Palace and Faiz Shawls.
Travel within city
Gulmarg is small hill town that does not require any mode of transportation. Since most of the town is covered by snow for many months of the year, vehicles will find it difficult to traverse. The nearest airport is at Srinagar and a traveler can take a taxi from right across the road. They usually charge around Rs 950 for the trip if the trip can be booked in advance. Normal fares are Rs 1,250 due to the airport parking charges of Rs 300.
Taxi drivers such as Sharoor Ahmad (Phone No-91 941 972 9634) are available at the airport. Travelers can also book taxis through the TRC Taxi stand (Phone No-91 0194 245 2527). Advance booking through the TRC stand is the best option.
Srinagar is also the nearest railway station and TRC taxis can be booked in advance as well.
There are two ways to travel around the city. Travelers can either travel on foot or hire sledges which are hand pulled. These sledges are available during the off season and they are a fun way to travel around the town.
However the best way to see the town is on foot. Most of the places are accessible only on foot as roads are small and snow covered.
The Cable Car ride from Gulmarg to Kongdori-Apherwat, also known as Gondola Lift is a major attraction in Gulmarg. This ride gives an opportunity to enjoy the pristine beauty of Mother Nature. Passing over the pine forests with picturesque surroundings one is sure to have the greatest experience of their life while enjoying the cable car ride.

Located 13 km from Gulmarg at the foot of the twin 4,511 m Apharwat peaks is the beautiful Alpathar Lake. Triangular in shape, this serene lake is frozen until June and during the summer streams of clear water bubbling through the lake with floating ice pieces. The lake can be reached through trekking the snowy mountains and is a perfect location for trekking enthusiast.
Baba Reshi Shrine
Shrine (Ziarat) of Baba Reshi, dedicated to Muslim scholar and saint Baba Reshi, is a sacred mosque in the valley of Gulmarg. Built in 1480, this sacred tomb is a highly revered religious attraction and thousands of devotees visit this shrine every year. Tourists can access by local means of transportation such as sledges and field chutes.
Gulmarg Golf Club, established in 1911 is a major attraction in the region. Credited as the highest green golf course in India, it attracts many visitors, especially golf enthusiasts. The attractive feature of this golf course is that they offer temporary membership, even for a day, for golf enthusiasts.

Skiing and snowboarding are two main activities that can be enjoyed in Gulmarg. St Mary's Church
Situated in the valley of shepherds in Gulmarg is the 150 years old St Mary's Church. Built during British rule, the church got its new look in 2003 with a renovated façade and it is worth a place to visit in Gulmarg. Besides, Gulmarg Golf Club is a nearby attraction to visit.

Ferozpur Nallah is a beautiful stream located between the Nurpur and Chinamarg Pass, 5 km from Gulmarg. Popular for good trout fishing, the stream can be reached from either Tangmarg road or from the circular walk. It is a very scenic spot and is ideal for picnicking as well. From here, tourists from further continue to Tosamaidan, a 3 day, 50 km walk to one of the most beautiful meadows of Kashmir.
Khilanmarg is a famous site for Gulmarg’s winter ski runs. It is about 6 km walk from the Gulmarg bus stop and car park. It offers panoramic views of the Kashmir valley and the Himalayan range. Ningle Nallah is a nearby spot that can be visited.
A breath taking meadow of flowers, Lienmarg is beautifully located amidst the pine trees near Ningle Nallah (10km from Gulmarg). This meadow can be visited all year round. It sprawls on an elevation of 2,653 m above sea level and offers great views of the surrounding. It is also a good spot for camping, which is easily reachable by crossing the bridge over Ningle Nallah.
Maharani Temple, earlier served as the royal temple of Dogra Kings is situated on a small hillock in the central part of Gulmarg (reachable through trekking). Built by Mohini Bai Sisodhia, the wife of the King of Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh (last ruler of Kashmir) in 1915, the temple is a popular destination for tourists in Gulmarg.

Located just 10 km from Gulmarg, Ningle Nallah is a popular tourist spot. Formed by the melting snow on Apharwat peak and Alpather Lake, a long bridge crosses the Nallah and from here tourists can enjoy the view of the tranquil streams.
