Shivaji Jayanti is the birthday of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is celebrated on the 19th February in a grand way. This festival is celebrated in the state of Maharashtra. Chhatrapati Shivaji was born in the year 1627 and he is revered as the creator of the Maratha nation.

Shivaji united all the Maratha chiefs of Konkan, Desh and Mayal regions and built a strong civil and military administration. He successfully carved out small kingdoms by warring against the alien powers.

Shivaji was not just the hero for the Marathas but for the entire India as well. His glory is preserved in various poems, scriptures and movies. The occasion of Shivaji Jayanti is celebrated with a lot of fanfare, and processions are carried out throughout the state and many people dress up like Shivaji. He has been the nucleus of the Maratha history and has inspired many leaders of his time.
