Mumbai Festival

The Mumbai festival is slated to be celebrated each year in the second week of January. The festival is a grand mix of food, culture, drama, art, music, films and dance. This festival is the first ever public-private enterprise of its own kind that aims to glorify Mumbai as a leading cultural melting pot on the world map. The festival is inaugurated every year by the chief minister of Maharashtra.

The major objectives of the Mumbai festival are as follows:
 Sending out a positive message about the city to the Mumbaikars and rest of India
 Scaling Mumbai’s profile to expand its image and the tourism possibilities
 Providing a platform to Mumbai’s commercial communities to interact with its international counterparts and develop an art industry
 Providing an opportunity for an intercultural dialogue
 Establishing the city as major business hub

Mumbai festival was initiated with of some of the biggest and well known celebrities. The festival was spear headed by Anand Mahindra, the head honcho of Mahindra and Mahindra, and the other eminent personalities associated with it were Alex Kuruvilla from MTV, Jabbar Patel of P L Deshpande Academy, Ashwini Kakkar of Thomas Cook, Nana Chudasama and Kiran Shantaram the former Sheriffs of Mumbai, Peter Mukherjea of Star India, Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar and a host of other people.


Most of the events are celebrated at the Gateway of India, which is used as the backdrop of the festival. Many events are celebrated in Bandra Reclamation, Marine Drive, and other places in the city such as malls, shopping centers and colleges. The entire event is organized and conceptualized by the tourism department in the city with its core philosophy as ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam’, which means ‘the world is one family’.

Citizens, who are creative, are roped in to manage each module autonomously. These people take care of the sponsorships for every selection. The citizens are committed to locate sponsors and organize each module on their own.
