I'm planning to to Allahabad by car from Nawanshahr, Punjab, India and it is informed to me that the road condition of NH91 is not sound, so should i take the alternate route of NH2?

Guys I am based in Gurgaon and just recently (Nov 2010) have been to Gopalganj and back last diwali by road. I opted for the NH2 Faridabad-Agra-Kanpur-Lukhnow. And NH 28 Lucknow-Gorakhpur-Gopalganj. The road is definitely better than I thought. Kanpur to Lucknow was under construction, NH 28 was under construction in full swing.
However I believe Faridabad - Aligarh - Luknow is a much shorter route. NH2 from Faridabad to Palwal. Take NH71B ...morePalwal to Aligarh, NH 91 from Aligarh to Bilhaur, SH40 from Bilhaur to Lukhnow. From Lukhnow to Gopalganj you have no alternate option but to take NH 28.
However have not had any feedback on the road conditions, I have only worked it out on the google map. Looking forward to your feedback

very true, the toll rates are pretty high. i had been to kanpur (from delhi) last june 2010; i had workded out the toll collection to be around 210/- or 240/-. now, i am planning to make a trip again this may 2011 during the summer holidays & the faridabad toll will add up! i'll update you. i go with my family, leave them with my in-laws & return alone after ...morea few days.... only to go back alone (during june) & bring my family back. i can't help it-- east or west nanu's place is the best for my kids! any one taking a trip to kanpur during the period-- do let me know. my no. 9891874917. well, coming back to the toll rate issue: for an odd 480 kms from delhi to kanpur, they take around 240/-; it works out to be 50 paisa per km. after this calculation i don't feel bad; provided they keep on improving the road conditions so that i feel my family is safe on road.

Dear Neeraj, Tomorrow I am leaving for Mau again Via Mathura , Agra and Kanpur. You are very true about this road and toll, I also live at Faridabad and travel thru this. I also travel 2-3 times in a year and my destination is Mau (UP). In whole UP road condition is very very bad, distance from Faridabad to Mau is only 825 km but its take more than ...more18 hours, if road is good then only it will take 12 hours. Second thing no body is taking interest in NH 91 for maintening, Via NH91 we can save fuel and toll both. Via NH91 distance is shorter by 75km than NH2. Thanks and Regards Yadav
