Haflong is also adoringly called the “Switzerland of the East” and is located at an altitude of 1683 feet above sea level. Haflong is the headquarters of the Dima Hasao District of Assam.

Haflong is worthy of a visit owing to scenic landscape that is bound to leave you out of breath as you admire the beauty of the land and the environment that blankets it. The city is home to several indigenous tribes and cultures that live in harmony with the environment surrounding them. This beautiful hill station is dotted with gently rolling hills that are hidden from view by the mists and clouds.

Apart from rolling with the clouds, you can pay a visit to the Haflong Lake that is located at the centre of the town. The lake adds a touch of elegance to the quaint town and offers a picturesque view of the hill station. Various leisure water sporting and boating activities are also offered at the Haflong that one can take to explore the lake and its beauty at your own pace.

Situated approximately 9 km from the town of Haflong, the town of Jatinga boasts of being an ornithologist’s paradise between August to November as hordes of migratory birds make this town as their abode. Catch your feathered friends in their natural environment and habitat.

Muolhoi Village

The Muolhoi Village is the headquarters for the World Peace Centre for the North east region of India. Primarily boasting of being Christian, the village is noted for its churches and chapels, comprising of the local Hmar tribe that account for 30 percent of the population of the town of Haflong.



Maibang is located on the riverbanks of the Mahur approximately 53 km from Haflong that once flourished as the capital of the Kachari Kingdom. At present there are several stone ruins of temples and houses that stand as a testament to the kingdom that existed.


Situated at 112 km from Haflong, this town boasts of a huge hydel-power plant that has come up on the Kopili River. Near the town, there is a hot spring that is said to have medicinal properties in its waters.


The Kopili River cascades into a waterfall rolling over the rocks of the Panimoor here. Panimoor is approximately 120 km from Haflong.

By Air: The nearest airport is in the capital of Assam, Guwahati, which is approximately 368kms from Haflong.

By Rail: There are several trains from Guwahati and Silchar that connect to Haflong spread over the day.

By Road: Haflong- Dehangi- Diyungmukh- Lanka-Nagaon-Guwahati, Haflong- Dehangi- Umrangso- Jowai- Shilong- Guwahati, Haflong- Jatinga- Harangajao- Silchar, Haflong- Jatinga- Mahur- Maibang- Lumding- Diphu are some of the most well connected road networks to and from Haflong.
