Monsoon Destinations in the West

by Madhav Srinivasan 5 year, 2 months ago

Traveling to the western region of India is always an amazing experience, thanks to the Western Ghats and the many beaches that are located along the rocky coastline. You can take a monsoon trip to one of the many hill stations or revel in the beaches.

Goa – The Land of Sun and Sand

Goa is considered to be an ideal summer destination thanks to its wonderful beaches, but the place attracts select visitors during the winter too.

The weather in Goa is pleasant during the winter as opposed to the high heat of the summer, so the beaches of Goa attract European visitors during this time. Christmas and New Year celebrations are popular here, and this is yet another reason why tourists book Goa tour packages and flock to this place.

What to Enjoy

Goa has more to offer than just beaches, and you can explore the surroundings, including the countryside and the wildlife resorts. Spice tourism is a new idea that’s being promoted, where you can stay at a spice plantation and take a tour around the same.

You can also visit the wildlife sanctuaries near Goa. About 20% of the land in Goa is conservation land, and the wildlife here is varied and interesting.

If you do manage to find a beach resort, you can of course, take part in many water sport activities like water skiing, diving, snorkeling, and deep sea fishing. Some resorts organize bonfires too, and attending a bonfire event will be a fun experience that you’ll never forget.

During your monsoon trip to Goa, you can visit the waterfalls that lie around the region, like Anjum, Aravalem, or Dudhsagar. These waterfalls are at their majestic best during the monsoon.

Try going on a wildlife safari in one of Goa’s many nature resorts – Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, Bondla and Cotigua. You can see bison, boars, Langur monkeys, deer, and even try your luck at spotting the ever elusive leopards.

Mahabaleshwar – Revel in the Hills

Mahabaleshwar is a beautiful hill station in the state of Maharashtra, 115 km away from Pune. It is a pilgrimage center for the Mahabaleshwar Temple, and it is also a popular tourist destination. Surrounded by evergreen hills, this charming city is famous for its strawberries and mulberries and a must visit place to holiday in Maharashtra.

What to See

The Mahabaleshwar Temple and Venna Lake are two very popular destinations here. There are many scenic view points on Mahabaleshwar Hills. Here are a few:

  • ·         Arthur's Seat
  • ·         Lodwick Point
  • ·         Babington Point
  • ·         Wilson Point
  • ·         Kate's Point
  • ·         Bombay Point (Sunset Point)
  • ·         Elephant's head Point
  • ·         Lingamala Falls

What to Enjoy

The beautiful Venna Lake is an attractive spot where you can go on boat rides. You can also take up horse rides around the lake. There are many trekking trails in Mahabaleshwar Hills, and the adventurous lot among you can have fun walking along these trails.

Visit the western parts of India during your monsoon break, and you can either wade in the waters of Goa or trek through the hills on your Mahabaleshwar tours at peace.
