When it comes to off-season travel, there are countless must visit destinations in the eastern parts of India that you should try out. From the green valleys of Haflong to the rugged terrain in Sikkim, eastern India has a lot to offer…

With the rains pouring down in torrents, are you tired of being indoors all the time? Just because it’s the off season doesn’t mean that you can’t visit any of your favorite spots, you can pack your bags and hit the road for any monsoon destination.


Visit the monsoon destinations that lie in Eastern India, as these places are beautiful, unexplored and truly untouched. Two must visit destinations that you should travel to during the monsoon are Haflong and Sikkim.



Haflong is a charming hill station in the state of Assam. Surrounded by emerald hills and valleys, the secnic town is famous for its breathtaking views. If you like taking in the fresh mountain breeze while gazing at miles of greenery, Haflong is the right place to visit during a trip to North East India.


What to See


Maibung was the capital of the Kachari Kingdom. It is now a town of ruins, but still an attractive place to visit. Architecture and history buffs will have the time of their lives in this place. A stone house and a temple dedicated to the Kachari Kings are the main attractions here.



There is a huge Hydroelectric Power Plant here, built across the River Kopili. The many hot water springs near Umrangshu are believed to possess medicinal properties, and this destination is a hotspot near Haflong. 



The Kopili River falls crashes down the rocks of Panimoor and presents a beautiful waterfall.

Haflong is a good place where you can try your hand at activities like paragliding and trekking.



Situated near Kanchenjunga, the world’s third tallest mountain, Sikkim is bordered by Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, and is known to be the country's least populated state. It is a charming state that needs no introduction among tourists.


It has over 150 beautiful lakes and forests that are rich in wildlife. The fauna you can spot here include snow leopards, musk deer, Red Pandas and barking deer to name a few. You can unwind and relax in the mountainous countryside and revel in peace during your monsoon travel to Sikkim.



What to See

RumTek Monastery

This monastery is the main seat of the Karma Kagyu division of Tibetan Buddhism. The original structure, which was built in the 18th century, ultimately fell into ruins. The current building was constructed in the year 1959. If you are a fan of history and learning about different cultures, you should visit RumTek. 


Tsongmo Lake

This lake is held sacred by both Buddhists and Hindus. The lake is hidden deep inside the forest and the area is rich in avian life. Near this lake lies the beautiful natural three storied cave, the Tseten Tashi Cave.
