Wondering why we are referring to village life on a travel
sight, sit back and enjoy this ride which will take you straight to the centre
of all the action at Siddhagiri Gramjivan in Kolhapur.
At the first sight it looks straight out of a travelers
photologue, a closer look and you realize that this is actually a beautiful wax
museum, where each of these pieces have been carved to perfection so musch so that
they almost come alive.
Phase 1 of this master
piece museum spans over 7
Acres of area with almost 80 main scenes and around 300 statues
Located on the Pune-Bangalore highway, this museum is the
best stop over and a hidden gem to most people. An effort to bring Mahatma
Gandhi’s dream village to life, each piece here is carved to perfection with an
aim to recreate history of a self sufficient village before the invasion of the
Mughals in Maharashtra.
Each scene on display in this museum brings to life the
little nuances of everyday village life beautifully. Looking more keenly at the
whole cluster of daily village life scenes, one can see that this is a
portrayal weaved in a story about a village which lived as one big happy family,
untouched by modern day life.
After a visit to this beautiful one of a kind museum, I think
to myself, why go all the way to Madame Tussauds when we have such a beautiful
museum representing the real India and real people!
