Go Wild, It’s Oktoberfest Time!

by Madhav Srinivasan 5 year, 7 months ago

Oktoberfest is one of the biggest rock events in the world and the largest beer festival held every year in the city of Munich, in Germany. To capture the spirit of this festival in India, attend the Mumbai or Bangalore Oktoberfest in 2011!

The cities of Mumbai and Bangalore hosted their own versions of Oktoberfest in the year 2010 and it was a huge success. The Bavarian styled food and drink fair was organized in Mumbai’s Mahalakshmi Race Course by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC).

A Quick Flashback to 2010

In 2010, the Mahalakshmi Race Course was dressed up in the Bavarian colors of blue and white, and the German music band Die Oberbayern set the rhythm with traditional Oktoberfest and German Folk tunes that got the festival going. The wheat beers from Erdinger Weissbraeu breweries were so popular with the Mumbai crowd that the initial supply ran out half way through the festival, and the organizers had to bring in a fresh supply again.

An air-conditioned tent that enclosed 80 tables was set up and with an unlimited flow of beer and 10 course meals (veg/non-veg), the 2010 festival was probably more of a success than the organizers envisaged. For this reason, this year’s Oktoberfest in Mumbai is being organized on a larger scale.

Why You Should Visit the Mumbai Oktoberfest 2011

This year, Mumbai will again play host to the beer festival - from 14th to 16th October. The event is being organized by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, in association with DHL. This second edition promises bigger and better things, and with the inaugural festival last year taking off so well, the organizers have decided to arrange things on a larger scale with bigger tents and more celebrations.

The festival will be held at the Mahalakshmi Race Course over three days – 14th, 15th and 16th of October. In order to be a part of the celebrations, you will have to book your tables early so that you don’t miss out on the action. It goes without saying that if you book a table, it will be exclusively for your group and can seat up to 10 people.

Each table comes with:

  •        20 liters of Oktoberfest special beer
  •       10 special Oktoberfest beer mugs
  •       10 course meals (you can order vegetarian or non-veg meals)

You’ll need to book the tables in advance, as the demand far exceeded the capacity last year and lots of people had to be turned away because of lack of seating capacity. You will have to pay the full amount in advance to get your booking confirmed.  Your table numbers will be allotted a few days before the fair begins and you will have to collect your beer vouchers and table tags.

Oktoberfest in the Garden City

The city of Bangalore is all set to welcome this October with the renowned thrash metal band Metallica and this is an event that fans across the country are waiting with bated breath for. The concert is scheduled for the 30th of October, and is Metallica's first performance in India. This event is one that will surely draw locals and tourists in huge numbers, and head-banging to the riffs and beats of the band among thousands of fans can be an experience to cherish and remember, especially for the ones among you who share a love for rock!

Other popular bands like Rupa and the April Fishes and Poets of the Fall are scheduled to perform under Oktoberfest 2011 in Bangalore. The main event, which will be held from the 11th to the 13th of November, will feature tons of beer for lovers of the beverage and some of the best local bands from across the country.

If you’re looking for a different experience, far away from traditional customs in India, book your tables and join the party!

The festival begins each day at 5 pm, with the band starting to play from 6 pm onwards. Celebrate the spirit of the Oktoberfest and swing to traditional German folk tunes, with your friends around and beer in hand!
