Sufi Sutra International music festival is a three-day music
extravaganza that involves some of the topmost Sufi musicians from around eight
countries. This is a free music festival and also includes music workshops in
the day, shops, Q and A corner and may food stalls. People visiting this
festival can also interact with the participants and musicians.
The major reason that makes this event special is the
growing popularity of Sufi music. However, most people are still unaware of the
opportunities and depth of this field. The main aim of this festival is to put
Sufi music in a global platform and educate the younger audience about it.
Apart from Indian, Sufi musicians are generally from the countries of Iran,
Syria, Afghanistan, Egypt, and Tajikistan. The participants in the music fest
are also generally from these countries.
In each edition of the festival, the organizers try to blend
in the ideas of harmony, truth, peace and self-belief through music. Scores of
Sufi musicians participate in the festival. The exhibitions and workshops
designed to increase the reach of this kind of music is the major attraction
point in this festival.
Sufism basically preserves most of the mystical and
spiritual aspects of the Islam culture and religion. This music was originated
by the idea that, one listening to this music experiences himself transcending
his physical realm into a spiritual one. An example of this kind of state is
the Whirling Dervish, who enters meditative states while dancing.
Sufi Sutra International Music Festival witnesses a large
participation each year, and it is regarded as one of the most important
festivals in the genre of Sufi music.
