by afiatajdar 1500 days ago

Cabs are one of the most common means of transport is India, especially for outstation travel. Travellers can choose a wide option of cars that offer convenient, safe, easily accessible, and cost-effective travel.

Some of the most common cabs available with the private operators include Tata Indica, Indigo and Innova. All these cars come in both AC as well as non-AC variants. Taxis in India are mostly chauffuer driven. Self driven cars are also available and can be booked on your India tours.

Cab Charges

Following is the list of few charges that the travellers must confirm with their taxi providers before booking the cab:

  • Per km Charge: In most of the metro cities, the rate of taxi is calculated on the per km basis with a minimum cap of 250 km for a day. This means that the passenger has to pay a minimum charge for 250 km, even if the distance travelled is less. In case the distance exceeds more than 250 km then the extra will be calculated at the per km rate.

  • Driver's Allowance (Bata): Usually Rs 200 per day. Might go up to Rs 350 for SUV and Rs 500 for Tempo Traveller.
  • Late Night ChargesUsually Rs 250 per night when travelling at night (9 pm - 6 am). In some cities, they are charged on actuals.
  • Night Halt Charges: In some cities like Pune, night halt charges also apply. The price depends upon the city of travel and it is not included in the drivers allowance.
  • State Entry Tax: All the commercial vehicles of a state are required to pay some amount (depending upon the state) for entering other states. This is generally paid beforehand. Typically Rs 500-1000 per state.
  • Parking Fees / Toll Charges: Depending upon the taxi service provider, they can be either paid by the driver or have to be paid by the passenger at actuals.
  • Service Tax (4.95%): This is a general norm and is applicable on the final bill.

Many a times, Travel Agents do not disclose all the charges and you end up paying a lot more than initially agreed. Wherever possible, try to hire an 'all-inclusive' cab.
