Bollywood Helps in Increasing Tourist Influx

Bollywood churns out several movies a year, most of which are shot at exotic locations within and outside India. Learn more on how the film industry impacts tourism not just in India but other countries as well.

There are more than 23 million people in India who see Bollywood films. The Indian film industry has a huge reach and fan base in the country as well as in many places throughout the world. A number of these films are shot at outdoor locations which are very scenic and exotic. As a huge number of fans see Bollywood movies, they would also want to visit the scenic and exotic places shown in the movie. Keeping this in mind the tourism officials are actively supporting Bollywood movies as it provides a huge impetus to the tourism in the country.

Increasing Tourist Influx to Other Countries

In the month of November this year, a movie named “From Sydney… With Love” is the latest Bollywood film to be filmed in Australia that covers major tourist attractions in the country like Darling Harbor, Kings Cross Fountain and the Opera House; the movie also includes a rugby scene. This is hugely supported by the Australian Govt. as it can open up travel options to many Indian tourists clueless about visiting foreign tourist destinations.

Australia has received a huge impetus in its tourism sector as a lot of Indian tourists have been thronging the country after the release of films like “Orange” and a host of other Indian television programs. The managing director of the tourism department in Australia, Andrew McEvoy mentions that the tourism potential in India is enormous and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many tourism bodies are turning to Bollywood films as a strategy in their marketing.

Amir Khan – Brand Ambassador for Incredible India Campaigns

Bollywood films and songs have a viral reach, and the potential needs to be rightly tapped to get the best outcome. Aamir Khan was made the brand ambassador for the Incredible India campaigns owing to his immensely successful movies. He will be promoting the majestic and rich cultural heritage of the country along with the tagline for the Incredible India campaigns, “Atithi Devo Bhava”, which means guest is God. As a popular actor who enjoys a huge fan base, the message of “Atithi Devo Bhava” reaches out to his fans and tries to make them aware of the necessity of being cordial towards both international and national tourists.

The number of outbound tourists in India is touted to reach the mark of 50 million by the year 2020 as there a massive population of Indian middle class who love to travel.
