Do you prefer to sip hot tea peacefully in the midst of beautiful scenery surrounding you? Rohru is the place for you! Silence is golden here!

The countless hill stations nestled in the beautiful valleys of the Himalayan mountain range have been the quintessential destination for all Indians and tourists, young and old, for ages now. Breathtaking views, crystal clear streams and the listlessly pure air that tends to make one light headed are but few of the million virtues that make these locations paradise on Earth. Tired and raring to unload the dreadful burden of work related worries? Looking for the ever elusive peace of mind in a place where you can preferably sink in the silence of it all? Look no further, the answer to your queries is, as always, here! In the line of famous and oft visited hill sister cities and hill stations like Shimla, Kullu Manali tours comes Rohru, where silence reigns supreme.

Partially populated, scenic and beautiful, Rohru is a small town that is situated a rough 115 Kms from Shimla, along the banks of the Pabbar River. An extremely popular spot among anglers, the town is a great place to fish for trout for the river and its tributaries are rich in it. The town mainly owes this status to Raja Bhadri, the original King of Bahadh who was solely responsible for transforming this town into an angler’s paradise. The town is also a great vacation spot for adventure buffs. Like every Himalayan town worth its salt, Rohru has provisions for all major adventure sports like trekking, camping, Para gliding, hang gliding and its kind one can enjoy on Himachal holidays.

Located in the Shimla district of the Himalayan state, Rohru stands at an altitude of 2,165 meters with a climate very similar to that of Shimla. The district of Shimla is one of the few places in India where all seasons of the year can be uniquely experienced and enjoyed to the hilt. Its resemblance to the general English weather is one of the prime reasons why the British chose Shimla as their summer capital. Rohru is frequented by tourists around the year during all the months because the climate is usually pleasant. However, the month of April is a time for festivities in Rohru, so plan your trip around then to merge into the local celebrations.

Planning your trip

Plan your trip to North India at your own leisure, depending on how what you expect from your vacation spot. Important and interesting places around the town are few and hard to come by, so just schedule your trip for longer than two days if you think the mountain air will do you a whole lot of good. An ideal trip to Rohru involving the usual sight seeing plans and a small tour of the town can extend from 2 to 3 days. Try visiting the Shikhru Devta Temple on the first day of the trip. The Shikhru Devta temple is a tourist favorite in Rohru and one of the oft visited spiritual spots in Himachal Pradesh. This beautiful temple is situated in the heart of this quaint old town of Rohru and it is dedicated to Shikhru Devta, the local Goddess. Spend the rest of the day taking in the sights and sounds of the town. An annual fair is organized and conducted by the temple every year during April, making it an ideal time to visit the town.

Reaching There

Give in to the spirit of adventure, and spend the second day angling in the shallow waters of Chirgaon. Chirgaon, a village located 15 kms away from the town of Rohru is the main base for fishing trout and has great spots which can be rightfully declared as an angler’s paradise and can be  enjoyed on holidays in Shimla. The areas of Seema, Tikri, Sandhsu, Dhamari and Mandi are famous for their territories that are rich in trout, and the village is also an excellent trekking spot for adventure buffs to appease their inner drive of adrenaline. Rohru has direct buses from all the major cities around it and also from the nearby town of Shimla. Its nearest airport is the Jubbarhatti Airport present in Shimla. Kalka, located around 165 kms from Rohru, is the nearest railway station and taxi services are available from Kalka to Rohru for 2000INR.

Staying There

The Chanshal Hotel, The Monal Hotel and Hotel Riverview provide excellent services for moderate and affordable prices at Rohru. The town is pretty small and can be covered entirely by foot, but jeeps are available for trekking or visiting the fishing spots present some distance away from the main town. With rooms available for rates ranging from 500-1500 INR, a trip to Rohru is sure to be easy on the pocket and on the mind.
