Kalidasa Festival

The Music and Dance festival depicting the performances of theatrical artists, held every year in the month of November, at the holy town of Ramtek. Mahakavi Kalidasa wrote some of his greatest literary artifacts like Ritusamhaara, Meghadoota, etc in this part of the country. The Kalidasa Festival organized in association with the district collectorate, Nagpur is to highlight the tourist attractions in the Vidharbha region. 

This festival aims to recreate the golden era of Kalidasa and pay tribute to the poet for his extraordinary contribution to literature. The main highlight is music and dance performances by renowned artists; in Nov 2011, classical ghungru vadan by V. Anuradha Singh and a parasailing event were notable favorites among audience.


Best Time to Visit

Winter is apt time to visit Nagpur, as the temperatures are suitable to travel over the many exiting tourist spots in and around the city. From October to March, the season is best to explore the Orange city.

Dragon Palace Temple Founded by a Japanese society, this Buddhist Temple is dedicated to Lord Buddha. One can admire the scenic background and the amazing architecture of the massive building.


Balaji Mandir An important tourist spot situated amidst the alluring environs of the Seminary Hills. The main deity is lord Balaji, who is the worshipped with lot of devotion, and there is an idol of lord Kartikeya too inside the temple complex.


Ambazari LakeThis situated on the western outskirts of Nagpur amidst a lush green landscaped garden. The Lake has a musical fountain and boating facility to attract tourists. The area covered by the Lake is approximately 15 Sq Km wide.


Maharaja Baug and ZooThe erstwhile park of the Bhonsle royal family, developed during their reign in Nagpur has now been converted into a Botanical Garden by the state government. The Zoo, which is a part of the garden complex, has many fauna, declared as rare species. The rich collection of flora, fauna, and plants is the main attraction of this place.


How to Get There

Nagpur is a metro with nation’s main highways intersecting in the city. The zero mile placed in the form of a stone obelisk, located at the center of the city is placed by the British Empire. Number of public and private buses ply between Nagpur and other cities.
