Perched atop a hill, Dubdi Monastery, also referred to as Yuksom Monastery is the oldest and the first established monastery in Sikkim. Founded in 1701, this Buddhist gompa of Nyingma sect is an important part of Buddhist religious pilgrimage circuit. The gompa is also called as Hermit’s Cell – after its ascetic founder Lhatsun Namkha Jigme and it happens to be the only existing gompa among the other four gompas, which was built during the period of its establishment in Sikkim.

Located at an altitude of 7000 ft, Dubdi Monastery, which was established during the reign of Chogyar Namgyal houses a collection of texts and manuscripts as well as the statues of the three lamas, who were responsible for establishing Yuksom. It features beautiful interiors with the walls of the monastery displaying the images of Gods, saints and other symbols.
