Uttar Pradesh is an Indian State in the northern portion of India. Lucknow is its capital city and Hindi is the language spoken widely in the state. It is the most populated city in India and fifth most populated city in the world. Uttar Pradesh is a major contributor to India’s GDP.

Uttar Pradesh is bordered by Indian states like Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand. It shares its borders with Nepal towards the North. The state is the birthplace of Hinduism and also is related to Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism in many ways. The popular cities in Uttar Pradesh are Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Allahabad and Lucknow.

Destinations to Visit


Three Heritage sites are located n Uttar Pradesh and these are Agra Fort, Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri. Uttar Pradesh witnesses more than 71 million tourists each year. The Taj Mahal is one of the wonders in the world and Fatehpur Sikri houses the Mughal ruler Akbar’s main palace. Agra is home to the world’s first 6D theatre and the largest spa in Asia. The life-like sculptures in Dayal Bagh are built out of marble stones and are one-of-their-kind in India.

Uttar Pradesh houses many holy cities that feature in Indian Mythology and hold significance in Hindu culture. These cities are dotted on the banks of River Ganges and Yamuna. Some of the sites that find mention in Hindu mythology are Ayodhya and Mathura, which were the birthplaces of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna respectively.

Varanasi is the place where Lord Krishna stayed during his childhood; it is also considered to be the oldest city in the world. Allahabad witnesses the confluence of the sacred Yamuna-Ganges Rivers.

Many pilgrims flock from all over the country to Varanasi as it houses the famous Ghats of the sacred Yamuna and Ganges Rivers. Holi is celebrated in Mathura with grandeur. The Magh Mela festival is conducted in Allahabad. Every 12th year the festival is celebrated in a larger scale and is called the Kumbh Mela festival, and this is reported to attract the largest congregation of people in the world. This festival is considered to be an auspicious event according to the Hindu beliefs. People from all over the country throng the place; you can see many Hindu saints and holy people in saffron dresses visit the Mela.

Sarnath and Kushinagar are some famous Buddhist places. Sarnath also houses the Ashoka pillars. Chhota Imambara and Bada Imambara are two famous monuments in the state.

By Air


The state has four major airports and 23 air strips. The Amausi International Airport at Lucknow has flights to Dubai, Riyadh, Muscat, Kathmandu and some more cities in the Middle East; it also connects Indian metros like Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.

Tourists travelling from Europe, USA, China and Middle East countries can avail the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi.

By Trains


Uttar Pradesh is widely connected to the other Indian states via rail routes, roadways and also air. There are four airports in the state which connect all the metropolitan cities within the state and nationwide.

Rail routes in Uttar Pradesh are extensive and the cities in this state are widely connected to all parts of the country.

By Road


The roads within the state are not that great. But one can find buses and cabs connecting all the cities and neighboring states.
