Thiruvilwamala is a hilly hamlet in the northern outskirts of Thrissur town. Located on the banks of the Bharathapuzha River, Thiruvilvamala is temple village with Vilwadrinatha temple, one of the famous Sri Rama temples in Kerala. The presiding deity is that of Lord Rama, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Ekadasi days are very important in this temple and many hundreds of devotees throng to this temple during Ekadasi.
Thiruvilwamala is also famous for many other temples. The temples of Mariyamma in Aakkaparambu, Parakkottu Kavu, Eravathodi, Cheruthrikkovil, Soudeshwari Amman temple, Pattiparambu, Kuthampulli and Poothanakkara Shiva Temple, all add the religious fervor in this village. Ivor Madom in Thiruvilvamala is famous for the last rituals and ceremonies performed to ensure peace for the soul of the dead.
