Spread across 100 sq.km is the Chenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary, which consists of the catchment areas of the tributaries of Kallada river.
The sanctuary has got its name from the tree Chenkurinji, which is mostly found in this area. Besides, one of the major rivers flowing through this region is called Chenduruny (Chenthuruny).
The sanctuary has to be visited by boat from Thenmala. Home to animals such as the bonnet monkey, lion tailed monkey, Nilgiri langur, squirrels, Indian bison, sambar & barker deer, there are also several species of birds found here.
