History
Sravanabelagola in Karnataka is a holy destination wherein Jains from all over the world come to pay their homage. History has it that the Bhadrabahu Swami, the last shruta-kevali had meditated at the two hills of Chandragiri and Vindyagiri. His pupil, Chandragupta Mauray, the founder of the Mauryan dynasty is also believed to have meditated here.
The city was also the seat of King Asoka, who built the Chandragupta Basandi, dedicated to Chandragupta Maurya in the 3rd century. Various memorials dedicated to the monks and Shravaks can also be found here.
The 57 feet tall monolithic statue of Bhagwan Gomateshwara Bahubali, for which Sravanabelagola is so famous for, was built by the Chmaundaraya the general of king Gangaraya.

Sravanabelagola is a city located in the state of Karnataka. It is around 150 km from the city of
Bangalore. Sravanabelagola is known for its various pilgrimage centers and many Jain pilgrimage centers surround the area. The nearest airport is at Mysore and there are many cab services from
