Simlipal National Park, a pristine wildlife region that defies all expectations, had got the status of National Park in 1979. This is a tiger reserve under Project Tiger declared in 1956, a project of Government of India to conserve and protect the Indian Tigers.

This National Park is credited with abundant flora and fauna. It is the replica of the ecosystem with all kinds of vegetation, wild animals, rare birds and inhabitants of Santhal tribe. The flora of Simlipal National Park is enriched with an amazing number of 501 different species hailing from more than 100 families which includes many varieties of Orchids.

The Park has its credit more than 100 tigers, many varieties of animals including hyenas, sambar, leopards, chitals and porcupines. It encloses more than 230 bird species featuring crested serpent eagle, Indian trogon, the red jungle fowl, gray hornbill and many other kinds. The park boasts an abundance of rare species of reptiles including poisonous and nonpoisonous snakes and the turtles. The banks of the Khairi river flows through the park are a natural habitat for rare Mugger crocodiles.

Formed meticulously with undulated hilly terrains, high plateaus, streams and pristine waterfall, Simlipal National Park attracts thousands of tourists to its lap. A Barehipani waterfall in this park is the tallest waterfall in India. One can spot tigers in this forest, mostly during pre-monsoon period.
