Siliguri is located ideally in Siliguri Corridor (Chicken’s neck), which is a thin strip of land connecting the Mainland of India with the north east of India. Travel within city
Silguri is located in the State of West Bengal and has an excellent system of internal transport. Tourists can opt for local buses, cycle pedaled rickshaws, auto rickshaws, electric rickshaws, shares tempo travelers. There are well over 6000 licensed auto rickshaws in the city and none of them run on meter. There are many more autos that do not have a license. Hence auto rickshaws serve as the main artery for internal transport in the city. Silguri has three main railway stations and all of them are auto rickshaw stands at the entrance and travelers have easy access to any part of the city.
The Bagdogra Airport which is situated around 15 km from the city is the nearest airport and there are many taxis and autos that ply from the airport to the city. Taxis charge around Rs 400 for the trip.
Buses run from the Tenzing Norgay bus terminus to various parts of the city. They are cheap and also frequent.
There are fixed rate auto rickshaws run by the municipal authorities that run on a fixed rate. These petrol driven autos are also a good option to travel around the city. There are six seater auto rickshaws that run between two fixed points.
