A picturesque hill station located 1000 m above the sea level with a nice bracing cool climate, Saputara the 'Adobe of Serpents', is located in the forest region of Dangs of Sahyadari Ranges. The town, the only hill station in Gujarat, is situated on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. The ambiance is very cool throughout the seasons and the maximum temperature experienced here is 28 degrees in summer months.
As per the Hindu mythology, Lord Ram spent his 11 years of exile in the dense forests of Saputara. There is a deity of a serpent (snake) placed on the banks of the river Sarpaganga. Local tribal folks pay worship to this serpent god and celebrate festivals like Holi. Saputara is enriched with natural relics and bio diversity, with awesome climate of chilly air and the terrains covered with mists in the evenings. Saputara attracts lots and lots of tourist to its scenic lap, owing to its stunning view, lively location and cool climate. Saputara has marvelous waterfalls and the place is ideal for watching sunrise and sunset. In the pleasant monsoon, Saputara offers breathtaking scenes for nature lovers. The Saputara Lake in the backdrop of lushing greenery and charming surroundings is a major attraction here. Boating facilities such as paddle boats or row are available on the lake. The place also houses some beautiful gardens and a museum. One of the main attractions of Saputara is the ‘Pushpak Ropeway’. It is considered the longest ropeway in the country and attracts a large number of children and young couples. There is a hill resort with hotels, parks, swimming pools, theatres and a museum. Travel within cityBusBuses in Saputara are few in number and these tend to be really crowded as buses are the preferred local mode of transport. While travelling through the town of Saputara through buses, you will need to spend around Rs 5 and these are the basic charges for getting around town. Boat RideYou can also opt for a boat ride in the lake present in Saputara and a boat ride can cost you anywhere around Rs 50 to 100 per head. This is not an actual mode of transport per se, boat rides are more of a tourist attraction and can be used to explore the vicinities of the hill station around the lake’s perimeter. Cable CarYou can also opt for a cable car ride in Saputara, as cable cars and gondolas ply to the famous Sunset Point.
