, Sabarimala

This shrine dedicated to Vavaru Swamy, a Muslim saint, in Sabarimala, is a true representation of religious harmony in the region. There are many legends related to him, one of them say that he was a pirate who reached the shores of Kerala, & got into a battle with Lord Ayyappa. After his defeat, he became a ardent devotee of Ayyappa.

When Lord Ayyappa decided to climb the sabarimala mountains to adorn the temple, Vavar also accompanied him. Ayyappa gave him a mosque near the Ayyappa temple. Muslim priests carry out pujas in this shrine. The old sword on the wall of the Vavar shrine symbolises the distinction of Vavar as a great warrior. All devotees visiting the Ayyappa temple pay their devotion to Vavaru Swamy as well.
