There are many modes of transport through which you can reach Rumtek. The town is located at a distance of around twenty four kilometers from the state capital of Gangtok, and you can take direct buses to the capital and travel to Rumtek through regular buses from there.

Jalpaiguri, which is almost 90 km from from Rumtek has the nearest rail head and is well connected to most part of the country.

Flights can also be taken to the airport in Bagdogra, which has frequent buses and taxis to Gangtok. Taxi fares from the airport to Gangtok will range around Rs 2,000. Flights from Guwahati, Delhi and Kolkata will be available easily and air fares will range around Rs 4,000 to 8,000. This is a very comfortable mode of travel.

Rumtek By Bus

Regular buses to Rumtek will be available from the city of Gangtok, for fares that range around Rs 10 to 20. These buses will be government run, and they will not be very comfortable. However, buses are widely available and tickets are quite easy to obtain. You can also opt for buses to the main city of Gangtok from Siliguri and Bagdogra, from where you can opt for buses to Rumtek. Gangtok lies at a distance of around 114 kilometers from Siliguri and ticket fares from Siliguri to Gangtok will be cheaper than Rs 100.
