Situated close to the bank of Ganga River in Patna is the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library. Established in 1900, it is one of the oldest libraries in India housing a unique collection of around 21000 oriental manuscripts & 2.5 lakh printed books. Opened to public in 1891, the library has more than 4000 manuscripts from Khuda Baksh’s personal collection.

In 1969, the library was declared as an institute of national importance and is now looked after by an administration board headed by the governor of Bihar. The library has also a wide collection of Arabic and Persian manuscripts and rare paintings that belongs to Mughal and Rajput era. Aside from this, one can also see a wide collection of letters from eminent personalities which are preserved in this library. It is a worth visiting place while in Patna.
