This area is home to a variety of nomadic Paliyan tribes. They tend to make their homes in caves that are in the area. They tend to exist on the edge of the population. Many of these tribes have started to live in modern ways, but others still hold on to their traditional ways. Tourists find it enlightening to meet up with members of these tribes. This area caters to the tourists who are interested in seeing an ecologically friendly landscape. One group of people that love to visit this region is birdwatchers. A wide variety of birds can be seen interspersed throughout the vegetation in the area. Such birds as night herons, golden-backed woodpeckers, and egrets are only a few of the birds that are commonly seen in the area. Hikers, trekkers, and campers also are drawn to the area. A truly exotic natural experience awaits those that choose to visit Palani Hills. ArticlesView allHill Towns: Glory of the hills post monsoonby Shwetha on Aug 20, 2010With monsoons gone by the breezy cold days headed our way, this is the best time to head to hills and enjoy the green canopy and crisp mountain air left behind by the monsoon showers... Travel within cityPalani hills are a series of hills in the State of Tamil Nadu. The hills are a part of the Dindigul district and the hill station Kodaikanal is located in the middle of these hills. They are known for its steep sleeps and roads. Some of the options that tourists have for travel among the hills are local taxis and buses. The best way to reach the top of the hills is on foot, although there is an option for a funicular tram of sorts, which takes you to the temple top without you having to climb the steps. TaxiTaxis are available from nearby cities and these can be used for transport around the place. Tourists have the option of choosing small cars such as Tata Indica and SUV’s such as Totota Qualis and Tata Sumo. These are a good option as they climb the hills easily and can carry up to 7 people. BusBuses are available from the lower parts of the hills to a certain point on the hill. Buses are usually slow and uncomfortable as they tend to be crowded. Tickets cost between Rs 10 and Rs 30. Palani Temple FunicularThere is a special funicular in Palani dedicated to aid old people and devotees in reaching the top of the hill. It bears a dilapidated look and is cramped, but gets the job of taking people to the top of the hill done. There are three tracks, and the funicular is connected by a rope. On FootThe best way to reach the top of the hill is on foot. There is a set of 600-900 steps that one must walk to reach the peak. |

Tamil nadu is famous for its temples and architecture. Both can be seen here along with a beautiful nature. How can you forget Madurai, Rameshwaram and Trichendur.
