ooty is a good destination to go in june, july and august. We started on saturday 28th noon around 1300hrs. The plan was sudden there was no preplanning done for the trip. It was my suggestion and everyone prompted to it. We took some home made food. Weather was pleasent as it always in bagalore. I want to hit mysore by 1600 hrs. So that the distance ahead will be going via jungle covered in day. My recently serviced car supported me and we crossed mysore in the decided time. Everyone well aware of the express highway its always fun on driving it. But important thing is I never crossed my driving limit beyond 110 kmph. In the outer of mysore i met an minor accident. I admire mysore guys about their bike driving skills. how can some one drive foreward by looking backward really a thing needs to be experienced. Well my mood of outing was so high that the accident wouldnt down it. After all I was going to drive first time on hills, I was tooo excited. Well I tried myself of not to get tired by long drive as I was the only driver and I know comming journey will be more difficult one. I realized at mysore that my fuel is less but just sufficient enough to reach ooty. I though of saving some penny by refuelling at TN.
As i thought after mysore journey must be rough. Road from mysore to bandipur was worse as the construction work was on. Road was filthy guttered natural big holes and too dusty. It was 6 when I actually started climbing the hill from bandipur. I was in hurry and want to finish the dark hill forest asap. While going uphill I want to confirm the path so i wave my hand to a downhill comming icon. I got the road path confirmation. But precisely wat i noticed that the driver was a good looking female. That was enough to boost my driving confidence. Than i drove at enjoyable speed. At Bangalore border they charge 10 bucks and TN entrance they charge 50. Mind here that they will enquire about ur sourc and destination. Police guys also peeps into the window and check out who else in the car and what are the things we were carrying. I told them the hotel details and as all family was there so they did let us go. Otherwise a swift of bachelors was thorougly searched. It was started getting dark 1900hrs when we entered famous sandal madumalai forest. On the way we have seen bysons, and elephants. I was told to choose the road via machinagudi to ooty. Everyone was so excited about crossing the jungle because i told them its very risky to cross it in night. heheh just to keep them awake. We stopped at machinagudi had some ginger tea and garma garam pakode. Now i started getting panic as fuel needle dips down and ooty is still far away on the top of the hill. Mind it the road is quite uphill u need to have correct tyre pressure and good brakes. Appropriate use of horn and dipper at curves. Some hairpin curves are too risky and dangerous with no boundaries and any signs on it. U need to be really really very attentive and careful especially when u r with ur family, But truely speaking it was thrilling fun on driving those 100+ curves and steep dark hairpin curves. As we climbing up the hill the temperature was dripping down with a drizzle and clouds that makes the driver screen foggy . And increases your trouble in seeing the road when a high beam downhill vehicle comes in front. Car cant go beyong second gear on uphill and hence fuel consumption goes high. There is no refuelling station between madumallai and ooty. There was one at machinagudi but was not working. Hehehe it adds more thrill into the journey. Meter shows we can drive 30kms with the fuel and ooty was 25 kms. Finally somewhere at 2100hrs we reached charring cross in ooty.
Hotel was good at the center of ooty. Next day we visited botonical garden and than catch the 1200hr toy train to conoor. Hire a taxi for 400 bucks it took us to buffet lunch of 75 per head. Than to sleeping lady point, dolpin nose and suicide point etc. Conoor is more scenic and beautiful than ooty. Weather was awesome as there was no rain but only breeze and clouds. It was a kind of sunny weather whch usually good for boozing, ;)
we returned back to station and catch the 1630 hr train back to udyamangla. From station instead of catching an auto we walked to the hotel. We all want to see the market race course etc etc as all wives prefer and husband avoids. It was 1900hrs when we reached hotel. We got some tea(which i never drink), choclates (that i never tasted). We had the stumpous spicy dinner at the hotel restaurent. Mind u ppls who wants alcohol with ice. ooty is no ice zone.. ;) so plz bear it.
Next morning we started for dodabetta peak , the highest peak in south india. Fast chill breeze and bright sun wat a combination it was. On top of it u can see coonoor, wellington, ooty etc.

Somehow I started feeling that all the scenes are same and unable to distinguish between hills. All are same anywhere u go what ever u see are all same. So I understand thts it time for packup. We had lunch at woody and checked out from hotel at 1300hrs. It started raining. Good thing wat i did I fill my tank full.
Way back to mysore I accidently went to the longer track which actually was worst. Deep pit holes was filled with water and my car's base hit many times which makes me upset.
I reached mysore by 1700 hrs. We decided to see vrindawan garden musical show. After that we started back and had dinner at dhaba. We reached bangalore back at around mdinight.

Loco Ooty is also pretty cool in the off season. Most of the hotels will be sparsely staffed, but you should be able to find off-beat accommodation. I looked at indiahotels, traveglguru.com and www.namastay.in. Finally ended up booking a heritage place through namastay.in. Oh, and if you're driving, avoid an old tata car. There were at atleast 7-8 of them stalled on the 36 hair pin bend road! :)
