Lal Tibba or the Red Hill, as it literally means in local language, was also referred to as Depot Hill due to the presence of the convalescent depot. This is the highest point in Mussoorie. The Indian Military services are stationed at Lal Tibba that makes access to the hill restricted. Broadcasting stations or towers of All India Radio and Doordarshan are situated atop Lal Tibba.
Sightseeing of the through the lens of an old telescope is possible from a 20 m tall tower standing on the edge of the cliff. It is best advised not to travel to this hill during the rains/monsoons to avoid being infested with leeches.

recently i visited mussoorie and also lal tibba , this is the highest point of mussoorie it really looks nice . only four wheelers goes there . the standing point from where we can see down was closed at the time of my visit . it is at an average height of 8000ft .

I visited Mussorie and Lal Tibba on 23rd Sep'2009. I found it utterly wasteful of time. It was the last point of a cab tour. There was not much scenic beauty and the old telescope has really become dirty and unclear due to lack of maintenance. Pls avoid this point blindly. Being the highest point doesn't add to any site. The Gun hill gives better experience though 2nd highest point.
To top up our wooes, the only small food joint there, run by the old lady who has contract to dispense tickets for this telescope is a big cheat. There is no rate list displayed and we were charged Rs 35 for a small plate of Maggi noddles. Also Rs 2 each for extra plastic forks. Later our taxi driver told she charges Rs 75 for a pathetic coffee, fortunately we did not have.

sj, u r right, on 10th Nov'2009 i also visited at lal tiba with my Gf and a couple. there is no scene to view. but we enjoyed the route of lal tiba.
