Mussoorie, a picturesque hill station in the Northern part of India, was discovered in the 18th century by Captain Young. The British officials added to the popularity of this hill station, as they mostly visited it as a getaway from the heat during summer.
Mussoorie is located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, on a horseshoe shaped ridge. This altitude gives the destination cool and pleasant climate conditions.
Mussoorie is a lovely hill resort in the state of Uttaranchal. It is like a picture right out of your dreams! Travel within city
Mussoorie is situated at an average height of 1900 feet above sea level and has a good system of transportation. It is well connected with auto rickshaws and taxis. However, for the most part travelers can walk around the place on foot. Since it is situated on a hill auto rickshaws may not be able to reach many places around the city.
Bus
Dehradun is the nearest train station and there are frequent buses from the station. The buses are extremely cheap and cost around Rs 15. Travelers can also hire taxis from Dehradun and they charge around Rs 900. For those travelers arriving by air the best option is from Delhi. They can take a connecting flight to Jollygrant Airport in Dehradun which is around 60 km from Mussoorie. There are taxis available from the airport to the hill station.
Taxi
There are no taxi services inside Mussoorie. Taxis can be hired for trips to nearby areas. They cost around Rs 300 for each trip.
Auto Rickshaw
Auto rickshaws are available in some parts of Mussoorie. They operate from the library part of the mall to the mid way point. There are no separate night fares involved.
On Foot
Due to the mountainous nature of the city the best option is to walk as most of the important places are located close to each other.
