West Bengal is the ideal ground for all history buffs, as there are many monuments and sites commemorating key events that occurred during the Indian freedom struggle against the British. The town of Murshidabad also falls into the category of historically important sites, and this town was the first capital of Bengal, before the British took over the reins and anointed the title to Kolkata.
This town was once very prosperous and rich in wealth and it was ruled by a few Nawabs. There are many gardens, tombs, mosques and palaces in Murshidabad and in the surrounding regions that bring to life the Golden Ages of the town. The palaces in Murshidabad mainly sport Italian exquisite architecture and these are a delight to the eyes. During your trip to Murshidabad, you can visit Hazarduari Palace, which is the chief attraction of the place. The enormous palace is spread out over forty one acres of land.
You can also visit Madina Mosque that lies near the palace, and Nizamat Imambara, which was constructed at an expense of more than six lakhs back in those days. A new palace called Wasef Manzil stands on the banks of the holy river Ganga. This is an important tourist destination too.
