Walkeshwar temple, an ancient temple also known as Banganga Temple, is perfectly placed in the scenic surroundings of Malabar hills in South Mumbai. Walkeshwar Temple is dedicated to the main deity Lord Shiva and the legend relates the origin of this temple with Lord Rama and Sita. The temple is built during Silhara Dynasty in 1127 AD and the temple was destroyed during the Portuguese invasion. Later it was renovated by a group of devotees.

The main feature of the temple is the Banganga, a water tank, which is enriched with fresh water all through the year. A number of small shrines dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddesses are housed around the water tank. Many devotees throng to the temple during the full moon and Amavasya days.
