Miryalaguda, the rice-rich town in the Nalgonda district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, is known for its high standard of living. Situated at 16°52'19"N Latitude and 79°33'46"E Longitude, other towns in this paddy loaded southern state are not too long a drive away. Hyderabad, for example, is just less than 150 km from Miryalaguda, while Vijayawada is only a few kilometres further away than that. Miryalaguda is also easily accessible from Guntur and Warangal. Trains are available between Miryalaguda and these traditionally famous cities.
It is almost surreal how well developed the town is with its efficient drainage system that runs underground and its paved cement roads that also stretch into the interior parts of Miryalaguda. Unlike many other non-metropolitan cities or even many well planned towns, Miryalaguda is known for its apartments. Other attractions are the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and the numerous rice mills dotting its landscape.
As one of the top suppliers of rice in India, Miryalaguda is green and commercially wealthy. Hotels of the 3 star variety in Miryalaguda provide really good value for money. Hotel Vaishnavi stands out as one of the best ones and has been known to serve good food at reasonable prices. Do remember that like many tourist spots in southern India, Miryalaguda is best experienced in the winter months between November and February.
A brief stopover in Miryalaguda to break up your travels within Andhra Pradesh is definitely recommended. It exudes a small town feel while offering some really great opportunities to relax, walk around and take in the sights, the rich foliage and vast paddy fields. You could then go over to see the forts, parks and dams in Nalgonda, visit the temples in Guntur and then top it off with a visit to the heritage city of Hyderabad. Miryalaguda would, however, make your trip that extra bit special.
