Meghalaya is a very small hilly state in North-Eastern India. Most of the state is under dense forest cover, which makes easy transport through the state very difficult. This has dented the tourism potential of Meghalaya to a certain extent, but forested region is a blessing in disguise. Shillong is the only major city in Meghalaya which has three districts in the Khasi, Garo and Jaintia hills. Most of the districts are forested areas, while Shillong has the maximum population.

Camps are the best adventurous options available, but tourists who prefer peace and a luxurious rest, always have the option of going in for hotels and lodges.

The cuisine available in Shillong and in most of Meghalaya is pretty nice. You get traditional Meghalayan food in addition to other Indian dishes.

There are many caves in Meghalaya and are located in East Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and the South Garo Hills. Trekking is the best means to reach these caves as tourists need to cross dark and murky jungle interiors to reach them. These caves are scattered all over the state, and few of them are also been declared the longest and deepest caves in the world.

Meghalaya has numerous other districts, under forest cover, which do have quite a few places of religious importance. These towns have an aura of freshness in them, which makes it all the more interesting for adventure loving tourists. Meghalaya is going places in the tourism industry and it would only be fair for the general public of India to be part of it.
