Govardhan is a popular pilgrimage center that is placed on a tapered sandstone hill called Giriraj. It is in the near by town of Vrindavan, and this Hill holds some of the fabulous legends about Lord Krishna. The term 'Govardhana' can be translated in two ways. Most suitable meaning of the name would be 'that which increases the senses'.

The popular belief is that by visiting the Govardhan Hills, the devotees would attain some ethereal feeling. Though the Hills houses so many legends, the most popular is the tale that lord Krishna hold the hill for seven days on his hands while there occurred a great flood.
