Veerabhadra Temple is a major Hindu temple in Lepakshi, dedicated to Veerbhadra. Built in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple was built in the 16th century and boasts of typical Vijayanagara architecture with large pillar size images of dancers and musicians along with numerous other sculptures. The ceiling of the temple is dedicated with mural paintings and a huge monolithic Nandi bull made of granite is located near the temple. Some of the major attractions within the temple are – 100 pillared dance hall, hanging pillars, an unfinished wedding hall and Lepakshi sari design. Legends associate this place as being the one where injured Jatayu fell when Ravana kidnapped Sita.
