A cute beautiful village Alchi Choskor, is comfortably situated in the banks of Indus River not far way from Leh city. The main attraction here is the Alchi Gompa, a Buddhist worshipping place and study center, with an estimated 1000 years old. The Buddhist Monks of Likir run the Gompa. The village is populated by Buddhists and Hindus.
An 11th century Dhu-kang Temple is another attraction, attracted by many devotees. Many other religiously important and historical temples also exist in this small village. Nature has blessed this place with tastier and delicious fruits such as plum and apricot in abundance.
The best season to visit is May to September. Alchi offers its visitors comfortable accommodation facilities.

General Zorawar’s Fort or commonly known as Riasi Fort, an ancient fort preserving the private wealth of the rulers of Dogra in Jammu, is located in a picturesque place Riasi in the district of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. This age old ancient monument, presently in ruins, is located on a point overlooking the majestic Chenab River.
A renowned and controversial Warrior General Zorawar Sing owned this fort. The General is remembered here for his continued struggle with the Chinese rulers over Ladakh. Apart from the valuable and wealthy treasure of the Maharaja, the fort also houses spectacular collection of coins and specimens of all new stamps issued by the state. It is a historical monument liked by the visitors who got ample interest in history, ancient cultures and artifacts.

Hemis Monastery or Hemis Gompa, constructed in 1630 during the period of Sengge Namgyal, is the world known biggest Buddhist Monastery in the region of Leh. The Monastery is managed by Drukpa sect of Buddhism and the Gompa flourished by the activities during the period of Namgyal dynasty.
The monastery consists of two portions, the main temple known as Tshogkhang and an assembly hall, known as Dukhang. The verandahs of the Gompa are adorned with many beautiful wall paintings. These paintings display the Kalachakra, the wheel of life and the 'Lords of the Four Quarters’. It has many treasures on display including an lovely idol of Buddha (Sakyamuni).
Hemis Chheshu, the birthday celebrations of Guru Padmasambhav generally falls on late June or early July, is a major draw. The Ritual rolling of the Monastery’s worthy possession, a giant tangka is hosted by Hemis festival once in every 12 years. This is an ancient cultural celebration and is attended by Buddhists from all over the world.

This is one of the Dharma centres in Leh, Ladakh, India. The world known Buddhist Monastery is run the Karmapa sect of Tibetan Buddhists. Karmapa stands for "the embodiment of all the activities of the buddhas� or "the one who carries out buddha-activity". There are seventeen Karmapas as on today.
This Monastery plays an important role in propagating the values of Tibetan Buddhism and also working for the preservation of traditional Buddhist cultures. Leh palace, an impressive palace and a major attraction for tourists, is a 9 storied palace constructed way back in 17th century for the comfort of King Singge Namgyal. Situated on the ridge of a hillock, it is a miniature version of the renowned Potola in Lhasa, Tibet.
Presently the palace, once the home of Royal family, is functioning as the branch office of Archaeological conservation organization of Indian Government.
A tower named as the Victory Tower is placed above the palace, at the top of the Namgyal mount, which is an added tourist attraction.

Matho Monastery, with the history of five hundred years and the only monastery under the Saskya monastic Establishment in Leh Ladakh, is located on the beautiful Indus River valley and is believed to be founded by Lama Dugpa Dorje, a famous Lama in Buddhist Monarchy.
A worthy marvelous collection of ancient thankas and specially some in the form of mandalas, are showcased in this Monastery. Another attraction here is a holy shrine dedicated to the guardian deities. Matho Nagrang festival is conducted here in this Monastery; during the festival Buddhist monks perform many traditional rituals and sacred dances. Shanti Stupa, literally means peace(Shanti) pillar (Stupa) established by a ‘Peace Sect’ of Japanese Buddhists, is situated above Changspa in Leh District of Jammu and Kashmir. The stupa was opened in 1985 by Dalai Lama with an intention of Spreading Buddhist ideology and teaching all through the world. This is a place which tells the world the need for peace and harmony among its population.

Shey Monastery, an erstwhile Royal residence up to 16th century, is located at a small village Shey near Leh on the banks of Indus River and is managed by Buddhists Monks from Hemis Monastery. Lhachen Palgyigon, the first King of Ladakh built this Monastery. The building is placed on a ridge similar to a knife edge and the approach to the monastery is decorated with many stupas and shrines.
The prime attraction of the monastery is the blue haired Maitreya Buddha of 17.5 m high, which is made with copper and brass and also decorated beautifully with studs of precious stones. Guarding deities, paintings showcasing Buddhist preaching and Tibetan style stone carvings are very attractive. Many tourists visit this place to have a first hand experience of Buddhism and its cultural past.

Spituk Monastery, established in the 11th century, was named by a scholarly translator Rinchen Zangpo as Spituk. It is located on the mount of a hill in Leh on the Shore of Indus River. Spituk Monastery is famous for its wide and varied collections of ancient masks, icons, antique arms and numerous Thangkas. Stakna Gompa, famous for the splendid architecture on a 60 m high isolated rock and one of the most accessible monasteries, is another eye-catching monastery of Leh. This monastery is a visual display of the religious and cultural heritage of India and Biddhusm.
The monastery, built by a great scholar and Buddhist follower Chosje Jamyang Palkar in the year 1580, is a treasure of Buddhist scholarly teachings, artifacts and paintings. The Gompa is constructed by Drukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
The Monastery is renowned as ’Tiger’s Nose Monastery' as the rock on which the gompa located is shaped like a tiger leaping up to the sky and with the building itself is placed on the mose of this rock tiger. Thiksey Monastery, an outstanding specimen of Ladakhi architecture, is a glorious Buddhist monastery located nearby Leh in Jammu and Kashmir. Thiksey Monastery is the part of Gelukpa order in Buddhism and is beautifully located in the picturesque top of a hillock. It encloses numerous stupas, Thangkas, statues, swords, wonderful wall paintings and a large pillar carved with Buddha’s ideas and preaching, all in a mammoth 12 storied building complex. A marvelous Buddha statue in the seated position is adorning the main prayer hall. Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, built during the 15th century by King Tashi Namgyal of Namgyal dynasty in Leh, is presently maintained by the Monks of Sankar Gompa. It is one of the ancient Gompas in the north of Leh. The Gompa attracts many visitors owing to the several ancient manuscripts; impressive frescoes and the massive Buddha image of height of a 3-storey structure.
Presently the fort above the Gompa is in ruins, still visitors are allowed to climb over the fort to overlook the beautiful Leh valley down. It is open to the visitors daily from 07:00 to 09:00 hrs and 17:00 to 20:00 hrs.

Vajra Bhairava Shrine, dedicated to the tantric guardian deity of the Gelug-pa order in Biddhism, is perfectly placed at Spituk in the imposing Indus river valley in Leh. This shrine is one of the oldest buildings in Spituk. This guardian deity is believed to have supernatural powers and many devotees visit this shrine to offer their prayers.
The unique feature of this shrine is that the guardian deity installed here is open to devotees only once in a year, all other days the deity is kept in a closed sanctum. The walls of the shrine are adorned with many beautiful paintings dating back to 600 years. There are paintings that date back over 600 years on the walls of the shrine.
Major nearby attraction include Spituk Monastery, Mahakal Temple and Spituk Gustor.
