Vajra Bhairava Shrine, dedicated to the tantric guardian deity of the Gelug-pa order, is perfectly placed at Spituk in the imposing Indus river valley in Leh (10 km). This shrine is one of the oldest buildings in Spituk and is easily accessible by taxis from Leh. This guardian deity is believed to have supernatural powers and many devotees visit this shrine to offer their prayers.

The unique feature of this shrine is that the guardian deity installed here is open to devotees only once in a year, all other days the deity is kept in a closed sanctum. The walls of the shrine are adorned with many beautiful paintings dating back to 600 years. There are paintings that date back over 600 years on the walls of the shrine.

Major nearby attraction include Spituk Monastery, Mahakal Temple and Spituk Gustor.
