Situated in the heart of the Leh city is the Jama Masjid, the favorite mosque of Sunni Muslims in Leh and surrounding villages. Constructed during 1666-1667 A.D as per agreement between the then ruler of Ladakh Deldan Namgyal and the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, the mosque is believed to be an ancient heritage in Leh. With beautiful stone carving, it is definitely a place to visit while in Leh. The mosque is open to only men.
