Nageswarar temple, also known as Nageswara Swami Temple, in Kumbakonam is one of the most impressive and the most ancient Shiva temples in the region. This small temple is the abode of serpent gods as well.

It is one of the finest specimen of Early Chola temples built during 907-940 AD. The Serpent God Adisesha and Lord Surya had worshiped Lord Shiva in this temple. It is believed that Adisesha had undergone penance at this temple. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati blessed Adusesha with enough strength.

a holy well known as Nagateertham is seen in the temple premises. The sanctum walls and temple Mandapam carries sculptures of epic characters and gods.
