Travel within city
Kullu is a hill station located in Himachal Pradesh. The town has as a good transport system which includes buses, horse drawn carriages, tourist taxis and jeeps. Auto rickshaws are also available. The nearest airport is at Bhuntur which is around 10 km from the town. It is advisable to book taxis through the hotels as taxis from the airport may not be reliable.
Taxi
Although Kullu does not have a railway station, tourists can use the railway station at Joginder Nagar Railway Station which is located around 95 km from the town of Kullu. The best option it arrange for taxis through the hotel. There are also taxis available from the railway station. They generally charge around Rs 1200 from the railway station to the town center.
Auto Rickshaw
There are auto rickshaws in some places where the roads are not steep. There are no separate night fares. The best option is to hire private cabs from stands that are available at the street corners. Most of them charge per km and the usual rates are Rs 6 per km.
Horse Carriage
Horse drawn carriages are a popular mode of transport in the town. They are cheap and can be found along the main roads.
Food
There are a few dhabas and small restaurants clustered around the area near the bus stand. For tourists wanting to enjoy Chinese and Continental cuisine, Hotstuff is a good fast food joint serving excellent dishes at an economical price. For those looking for yummy Indian food along with some drink, head straight to Planet Food that has a stark bar on the top floor. For fresh and delicious sea food, tourists should go to Shobla International.
