I have been to Konarak 5-6 times. It is very nice place. It is around 35kms from puri,Orissa (Lord Jagganath dham - one of the dham among Char dham)
weelll!!!!!!!!!! i have some good experience at this place.
Konark is totally an Odissy architecture which was built in thirteenth century by King Narasimhadeva. The temple is like a chariot which is being driven by seven pairs of horses. There are twenty four beautiful decorated wheels. ...moreyou can find three nice statues of the God Sun,Actually the theme behind this is The sun god, Surya Deva, is supposed to travel in a chariot across the skies.
Now the temple being dedicated to the life giving sun god, the temple needs preservation being a world Heritage site.
If you want to see the magnificent, colorful lighting then wait till evening. Generally we finish the visit of this temple in one hour.
Konark has many hotels . I suggest to take lunch at the Marwari Hotel which is the first one on right as soon as you come out of main gate of the temple.Per unlimted thali it was Rs. 45
There are many attractive items that will attract your attention in the shopping area. Konark market is full of cheats, so do not buy anything without proper inspection Cashews are cheap. Beware while buying these.Cost will be Rs. 100 to Rs. 250 for 400 grams. Remember they will pack in 400 grams and you will confuse it with 500 gram. So inspect the weight. There will be people who wil quote Rs. 250 to Rs. 500 for gem stones. But you can negotiate and buy these for Rs. 10 each stone as all are fakes.
Don't forget to try coconut water in Konark. It too good, and too cheap at Rs. 5 per coconut.
In and around Konark u can also visit Bhubaneswar (temple city & capital of Orissa), Puri - famous Lord Jagannath's temple.
