One of the three sanctuaries in Reckong-Po region, Rakchham-Chhitkul Sanctuary is located at an height of 3200 to 5486m above sea level. The sanctuary serves as home to various animals like leopard, blue sheep, Himalayan black bear, brown bear, musk deer and goral.
Rakchham and Chhitkul are two villages located around 15 km from each other. While Rakchham, located on the banks of Bapsa river, is famous for its scenic beauty, Chhitkul on the other hand is famed for being the last as well as the highest village in the valley.
A few guests are available for tourists in the Chhitkul village.
