One of the lesser known attractions in the region, Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary is a haven for nature and solitude lovers,. Located at a height of 4,000 to 5,022 meters in Kinnaur district, the park was declared a sanctuary in the year 1962 and is spreading on an area of 30.9 sq. km. Nearest town to the sanctuary is Moorang.
The sanctuary is part of a cold desert and some of the most commonly sighted fauna includes - Asrang Sanctuary are Yaks, Leopards, Blue Sheep, Brown Bear, Musk Deer, Ibex, Gorals, and Himalayan Black Beer.
The best time to visit the sanctuary is from April to October as during this time many animals can be sighted. The area is not yet open for tourism and Inner Line permits are required to visit the area. A few guest houses are available outside the sanctuary.
