Khajuraho Attractions

One of the oldest temples in Khajuraho, Matangeshvara temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Made up of highly polished sandstone, the eight feet shivlingam is considered to be one among the largest in India.

Unlike all the other ancient temples of Khajuraho, Matangeswara temple is not besieged in the protected area, and it is still in everyday use by the devotees. Morning and evening Aartis in the temple offers a perfect time for darsan. It may be the plainest temples in Khajuraho, where one cannot found exquisite carvings. The polished deity and the ceilings formed of overlying concentric itineraries are very remarkable.
