I went to Kemmanagundi in September 2006 with a group of friends. The Kemmangundi experience was exhilarating. Kemmanagundi is like 250 Km from Bangalore and we took the following route : Bangalore > Tumkur > Gubbi > Tiptur > Arsikere > Kadur > Kemmanagundi. This route is very good as the condition of the roads are pretty decent. We zoomed off till Tumkur and had slowed down a little bit near Arsikere. Since we had left at around 6:00 AM in the morning, we reached Kemmanagundi by 12:30 PM. Since we were all tired, we took a dormitory in the Karnataka Forest Department's Guest House.

The lodge was horrible as the toilets were stinking and untidy. No one attended when we asked them to clean it. However, the double rooms had comparatively clean toilets. Seeing the quality of the rooms only we decided not to eat here. But there was no choice, as there is only one canteen in Kemmanagundi and that is the Forest Department Canteen. The food was pretty OK, coffee was good.

The next morning we decided to go to the Z point. Z point makes you think that you are in a totally different country. We though we were in Scotland ! The place is very beautiful and offers a breathtaking view of the region. Don't visit this place without a camera. Trekking till Z point was very difficult as we had to climb steep and winding path for 30 minutes. While going to the Z point you may feel like not going there, but once you reach the Z point, you will never want to come back.

Next we decided to go to Hebbe Falls. This is true nirvana less than 8 Km from Kemmanagundi. The water here falls down in 2 stages. Avoid going here during monsoon as it can get very slippery.

Overall, the trip was an amazing experience. Mosquito repellents and torches are a must as night times can get annoying because of mosquitoes. Don't stay in the forest guest house unless you have no other go. And take some eatables with you, this is because there is only one canteen in Kemmanagundi and the food quality over there is not so good.
