Beautifully landscaped gardens and uprising mind clogging flowers, a scenic hill station, Chandra Drona Parvatha as Hindu puranas named it; Kemmanagundi is in the hill ranges of Baba Budan Giri which has the legacy of bearing the Karnataka’s tallest peak Mullayanagiri.

The Krishnaraje Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore used this place as the royal summer retreat, as the result of which the hill station has got its second name as KR hills. Kemmanagundi, the name is derived from three Kannada words, Kempu, Mannu and Gundi literally maens red, soil and place respectively, together means a place with red soil.

Placed at height of 1434 m, Kemmanagundi is incredibly luxuriant and has stunning weather throughout whole the year. Kemmannagundi is spectacular, with very thick forests, magnificently flowing springs, breezy climate and calm atmosphere. The Royal Horticultural Society of Karnataka has its foundation at Kemmanagundi. It has wonderfully laid out attractive gardens and panoramic greenish sight of the mountains.

Kemmanagundi is an ideal place to have peace of mind, get away from the modern busy cities with pollution, the busy roads, never ending crowds and traffic jams of the cities. Quite serene natural place, blended with lush green forests, Kemmanagundi is sure to revitalize and rejuvenate the tourist, physically, mentally and spiritually. Slashing down on the rock face leaving it to misty, the amazing waterfalls, the terrains with dense forests, cool shady walking ways, really an amazing experience. One can spend hours in moving around this unspoiled and unexplored paths and quiet glens, where one can do picnic, wander and converse with nature.

Kemmanagundi is a nice place to visit in any season. The monsoon is quite spectacular, with waterfalls takes its pride with chatting over and amidst the trees and facing the rough rocks, with fresh look after the mighty rains. Kemmanagundi has that amusing capability to carry one from the daily strains and stress.

Trekking, bathing and fun swimming are offered at this place for the adventurous people. Other attractive places of interest include the Rock Garden, Hebbe Falls and Z-Point.
