A gorgeous hill station, Kasauli is renowned for its picture perfect environs and graceful Victorian mansions. This appealing hill resort denotes serenity, embedded in the magnetism of evergreen trees like oaks, willows and firs. Paved boulevards that are lined with stunning oak, chestnut and pine forests, once acted as a sanatorium for the British. Kasauli owes much to the illustrious English for its crowning glory.
The snow clad mountains, dense forests and lush foliage attribute to the unspoiled beauty of this hill station. It is quite amazing that this undulating picnic spot still retains its colonial heritage and charm in its entirety.

The most important place in Kasauli is the intersection of Upper and Lower Malls where one can find an array of shops and commercial establishments. These roads are flanked by beautiful trees that tend to seem as green umbrella. A relaxed walk through this imposing greenery is a marvelous experience making Kasauli, a popular picnic spot. This quiet little hill-station is also famed for the Pasteur Institute that manufactures vaccine against Rabies.

Travel within city
The main modes of transport in Kasauli are buses and taxis that run from cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. Rented motorcycles are also a preferred mode of transport in Kasauli, along with tongas.
Bus
Buses are available to Kasauli from all major and minor cities in the region. You can take a bus to Kasauli from Delhi, Chandigarh or Shimla as local transport is almost nonexistent in Kasauli. Kasauli is also a very small region, so most of the must see destinations can be comfortably covered by walk. Bus charges to travel from the foothills of Kasauli to the top of the hill (where the main temple is located) can range around Rs 20 to 30 per head. The buses available are regular semi deluxe ones.
Tonga
Tongas, or horse drawn carriages, are yet another mode of transport that tourists prefer in the town of Kasauli. Tongas are a cheap mode of transport, and travelling in a Tonga, while not too time effective, can keep the load on your wallet intact.
Rented Motorcycles
Motorcycles and bikes can be rented from the many local rental agencies in the region, and renting out a motorcycle for a day can cost you around Rs 300. You can opt for this mode of travel if you are an adventure buff.
Food
There are quite a few eating options in Kasauli and most of them are located on the Mall Road. The best vegetarian place in Kasauli is Narinder Sweet House in Mall market, famous for its samosas, burgers and sweets. For Chinese, tourists can go to R Maidens on Mall Road. For lip smacking burgers, sandwiches and soups, Daily Bread on Lower Mall is the best place. There are many small dhabas on Mall Road that offer yummy momos and local delicacies at affordable prices.
Shopping
While in Kasauli, there is not much to shop for except a few Tibetan handicrafts and local knick-knacks. The main market is located on the Mall Road. Tourists can go to Pinkonez and Mug Studio, both on Mall Road, for some exclusive souvenirs. Old Bazaar and Tibetan market are the places where tourists can buy woolens and wooden souvenirs.
