Attur is a village famed for the church it houses. It is located on the outskirts of the Karkala city. The main attraction of this peaceful and seclude place is the shrine of St. Lawrence, established in 1759 AD with remarkably rich history.
Scenic greenery amidst religious piety, Attur attracts lot of devotees, irrespective of religion, to St. Lawrence church. The Karkol Fest in this church is a major draw. Devotees believe in miracles by the church, with the church performing lots of social activities aimed at common public.
A hundred feet high tower representing the arts of various religions was built in 1997, to showcase the Church's secular culture in accepting people of various belief and faiths.
The village has a fine temple of Mahalingeshwara, which houses a copper-plated garbha griha. A Vishnu temple and Mahaganpathi Temple are also located in Attur. It is a good religious place to visit.

Karkala is well known for its massive 42 feet monolithic statue of Bahubali the Gomateshwara, the son of the first Jain Tirthankar, believed to have been built around 1432 AD. This is a male figure in a naked posture approached by a number of rock-cut steps.
Bahubali, a local prince who trounced his brother in a war to win the kingdom, renounced worldly pleasures of life and spent 12 years in meditation; by that time climbers grew all over and around him. Veerapandya Bhairava Raja built this monolithic statue in his honor.
A festival with all mighty known as Maha Masthakaabhisheka, sacred bathing of the statue with saffron paste, milk and water, held in every 12 years. During this period thousands of Jain devotees visit this place to carry out the Mahamastakabhisheka. This statue issan awesome site and is the second tallest in the state.

Chaturmukha Basadi, with a total of 108 pillars sanctified by Vir Pandya deva in 1432, is one of the noteworthy Jaina monuments sited at the rocky hill at Karkala. It is built in the form of a four faced hall, with a supercilious doorway and pillared entrance on each of its four sides. Chaturmukha Basadi got its name as four doorways alike each other in four directions lead to the Garbhagriha. The flat roof is constructed with very big granite slabs. Garbhagriha encloses the images of the Yakshi Padmavati and 24th Tirthankar, apart from the standing statues of Suryata, Ara and Malli. This is the most famous and attracted temple in Karkala. A nice place offers peaceful meditation and prayer.

Hiriangadi, very near to Karkala, is famous for its Neminath Basadi complex enclosing the wonderful 60-ft tall Manasthamba. The complex also houses the Bhujabali Brahmacharya Ashram, Padmavathi basadis and shrines for the Adinath Swamy, Lord Mahavir, Chandranath Swamy, Ananthanath and many more gurus.
This hilly part of Sahyadri Mountains presents very attractive natural panorama, really wonderful pleasing to eyes. This area show cases the cultural heritage and religious harmony of Karkala. Tombs of Jain priests, Stone Age structures, Gowri temple and Kanthavara temple are other attractions nearby.

Kambala Water Buffalo Races is a unique adventurous sport of Karkala region. When the fields are flush with water, this is the one sight not to be missed for any of the travelers. Karkala-Moodabidri’s renowned Kambala water buffalo races are held during the period November through February.
As per the historical evidence, the beginning of the race is supposed to be way back to more than 1000 years. This is an event held during post cultivation, when farmers offer tribute to the Gods for shielding their crops from ruins and in turn this marks the beginning of the next crops season started by sowing the seeds.
Lot of celebrations, cultural activities and games adds to the festive atmosphere in Kambala Water Buffalo Races. In this race, buffaloes paired, are racing through the fertile paddy fields, in tune with the strike of musical drums. One will be surprised to see how fast a modest buffalo, but healthy, can run. The festival is accompanied by much drinking and merry making.

A scenic spot in the midst of hills mixed with abundant green bamboo trees, Moodabidri, stands for eastern bamboo area, is a renowned place of cultural and historical significance situated near to Karkala and is also known as Jaina Kashi of South India.
A thousand-pillared Tribhuvana Tilaka Choodamani Basadi in Moodabidri, built around 1430 AD, and is a spectacular piece of architecture. The basadi’s pillars are each constructed in a different style, depicting the architectural techniques of various eras. This was served as a home to many saints and poets in olden times. Jain devotees from all over India regularly visit here to worship the Jaina Basadis, dedicated to the memory of the 18 Teerthankars.
Mutt of Sri Charukeerthi Swamiji is another religious attraction here. It has the fame of very big granite monoliths, known as Konaje Kallu. This is a fantastic religious place to visit and mix with the ancient culture of India.

Venur on the bank of river Gurupur is a small town near to Karkala. Venur, once the capital of the Ajila destiny, was a great citadel of Jainism. A colossus of Bahubali, 35 feet high built in 1604 AD, constructed during the rule of King Thimmanna Ajila, is a marvelous attraction here. This statue of Gommateshwara, Lord Bahubali is standing here on an elevated platform without any support. The features of the statue are nicely made and are in proportion. The statue is really wonderful and a valued view.
Apart from this spectacular Monolith of Bahubali, Venur's claims to fame have seven beautiful ancient temples. Venur offers its visitors the marvelous beauty and architectural extravaganza in its real sense.
